Virtual Worship for Sunday, January 20, 2019
If worshiping with children, choose from the options below that will best work for your family.
Read the Story
Read the Baptism of Jesus found in the Spark Story Bible on page 242–245 or in a child’s bible. If your child can read, invite them to read it.
Talk about the story – Say the parts in bold
Let’s talk about the story. Point to the picture on page 245. What did Jesus ask John to do?(baptize him) What amazing things happened when Jesus was baptized?(God’s Spirit landed on Jesus like a dove. God said, “This is my Son.”) What would you tell your friends if you saw Jesus being baptized? Accept kids’ responses. God did amazing things when Jesus was baptized. When we are baptized, God changes us from the inside out. God does amazing things!
Act Out the Story
Ask volunteers to play the parts of John, Jesus, the dove, the voice of God, and people in the crowd. Have each person choose a toy to act out the story. Invite the person playing the voice of God to sit behind a chair or shelf so she or he will be heard, but not seen. Read the story again from the Spark Story Bible having characters repeat their dialogue after you.
