Last Monday, April 22, was Earth Day. Since 1970, almost fifty years ago, we have been celebrating this special day to raise awareness about our role in protecting the planet.
Actually, students of the Bible have been reminded of the role humans have in caring for the creation a lot longer than that! In our scripture lesson today from Genesis 1, we are told in verse 26:
Then God said, “Let us make humanity in our image to resemble us so that they may take charge of the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock all the earth, and all the crawling things on earth.”
Taking care of our planet isn’t just a political issue. It’s a spiritual issue! And as we think about making the most of our lives by caring for the planet, we’re reminded of how important this faithful work really is. How will you make the most of your care for the planet? As a Green Chalice Church, Florence Christian has been challenging us to consider ways that we can be more faithful by our actions and daily decisions. How will you respond?
