Scripture Lesson

Isaiah 40:3-5

A voice cries out:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
    and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
    and the rough places a plain.
Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
    and all people shall see it together,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

God’s promise of love, in all things, through Jesus, is the hope we cling to as people of faith. What sorts of promises do you make to others? Are you able to uphold those promises? Why or Why not? Today, make note of how you are keeping your promises to the people you love. What about promises you have given to God?

For Children

A promise is a very big deal, because it lets others know that you are trustworthy when you keep those promises. What kinds of things to you make promises for? Are you keeping them? Spend some time talking to a parent or caregiver to see how they think you’re doing on keeping your promises. If you need help, I’m sure they will be happy to guide you.
