Scripture Lesson

Philippians 2:1-4

1-4 If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care—then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

Today’s Micropractice:

Selflessness is a great formula for building community. Admiring people for what they are, instead of adding up the things they aren’t is a beautiful practice to do your part in adding to the common good. Try, for today, to not look at someone for what they can offer you. And try not to avoid those who have nothing to offer. Take time to engage and interact with someone for no reason other than to be with them.

For Children

Doing something for someone else and expecting nothing in return is true selflessness. Do one kind act for someone else today, and say nothing about it to anyone. If you forget and talk about it, you have to do another kind act and say nothing about it.
